Boundary Wire Layout Options

For Underground Dog Fencing

The most popular and easiest fence layout for your pets to learn is the perimeter layout. This layout runs simply along your property lines. This layout gives your pets access to the entire property and allows you to train your pets all the way around your home. Unlike in the backyard only layout, if your pets happen to run out the front door or garage, they are safely contained. The twisted wire shown coming from the house is connected to the fence transmitter. Your pets will be able to safely walk over this twisted wire path.

Entire Yard Layout
Backyard Only Layout (single wire)

Underground dog fencing requires a complete loop to operate. So there are a couple of options to layout a backyard or front yard only fence. The first option is the single wire layout out. This is where we install the wire around the perimeter of your backyard and then we hug in close to the sides of the home, preventing your pet access to the front yard. We will continue the wire around the front of your home to complete the necessary loop. In this configuration, your pet will be trained to stay in the backyard only. So it will be important to monitor the front door and or garage openings.

Backyard Only Layout (double wire)

Underground dog fencing requires a complete loop to operate. So there are a couple of options to layout a backyard or front yard only fence. The second option is the double wire layout out. This is where we install the wire around the perimeter of your backyard and then we install a second wire approximately 4-6 feet apart from the first wire. This separation prevents interference from the two wires. This eliminates the need to run wire around the front of your home. However this layout will take up more play room for your pet to enjoy. In this configuration, your pet will be trained to stay in the backyard only. So it will be important to monitor the front door and or garage openings.

Hourglass Layout

In this layout we install the wire around the front and backyard property lines while hugging in close to the sides of your house. This layout allows for your pets to be trained in the front and backyard but prevents them from being able to go around the sides of your home. This way you are in control of when your pets have access to these areas. In this layout your pets will be trained both in the front and backyard so you won't have to worry if they run out the front door or garage.

Exclusion Zones

We can also add exclusion zones to keep your pets out of areas within your property. For example you may want your dog to have full access to your yard except for a garden bed. To do this we loop some boundary wire around the area you want to protect and join the loop to the main loop with some twisted wire.
